613: (63/365) David Mitchell’s “Gemini”

We are heading into assignment season in many of my classes – this means my students are busy getting on with it, occasionally asking for help, but I am stuck there inert and when I get bored I get naughty:

…so I fold stuff to keep me awake. Modulars have an advantage that, once you have mastered the module, it is largely “rinse and repeat” until the final assembly.

I used tiny sheets, this complicated the construction immensely – my fat clumsy fingers really struggled as the ball became denser and denser.

The end result is a lovely little jewel, the locking mechanism fairly positive but at this scale it tries to pull itself apart as you make it. When complete it is pretty stable but during the making it was touch and go there for a while.

David Mitchell has LOTS of lovely modulars, I will fold more of them for sure.
