Exam Revision

This written examcovers all programming skills completed this year with an emphasis on compound data types.

What you should be able to do

• create local and global variables
• use standard event handlers (onclick, onchange, onmousedown etc)
• write a generic (vanilla process) that can be used as an event handler
• manipulate objects (height, width, top, left, caption, position ...) at runtime (ie. as your program runs)
• understand how to drive standard components (buttons, edit boxes, captions, graphics, imagelists, spinedits, etc)
• understand sequence (tasks in the right order get the job done)
• harness SELECTION (decisions using if..then..else and case of)
• use appropriate iteration (timer-based repeating of things, for to do, repeat until, while do)

On a structural level, you should have a working knowledge of

• strings and arrays to store information
• records and sets
• defining types, and selecting appropriate data types for a particular storage requirement
• dynamic creation of objects and custom object types

You should also be able to:

• understand BROWN (syntax errors) and how to rectify them

Come prepared, having PRACTISED what you have been taught and you will do fine - there is NO substitute for actually trying this stuff - reading about it will just not do. Remember that SOME of the exam questions (or aspects of them) you HAVE seen before in class activities and exercise sets.
