Music copyright is complex. Students want to use music (or excerpts of noise) in their projects, and few think of the ramifications of stealing someone elses' work and including it as their own. From a teacher's perspective, it presents a major barrier to showing the works outside the cloistered environment of the school for fear of copyright infringment. Sourcing permission to use other peoples music is difficult also.
Buzz and other tools like it provide you with the ideal opportunity to create your own music - thereby not infringing on the rights of others. It offers levels of control that are naturally appealing to the likes of film students who are wanting grabs of sound for various purposes. From a teaching perspective it also models correct practise in terms of intellectual property rights.
Using tools like Buzz may prove too time-consuming or challenging for students whose whole production schedule is tight enough - it does take time to create something that is listenable.
